From Carson California Ovatronics was started in 2002 by Don Nova formerly of the group The Vigilanteez. Don Nova started his career as an artist and Graphic Designer under the Vigilant umbrella, working with longtime school mates Big Chris and Torrey Crowe.
All three realized they had a serious passion for Hip Hop and making music, they wanted to use this new form of artistic expression to change the world around them. The group recorded relentlessly trying to find their signature sound and forming the constructs that would set them apart from all the groups that had come before them.
The trio successfully put out their first album entitled “Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities”. The project was a small breakthrough for the group as they started distributing the album to local record stores in and around Los Angeles , Chicago , and Denver . After thirteen grueling years of trying to break into the music industry and financial losses which strained the groups relationship they decided to part ways.
Don’s younger brother Arrogant ( Darwin ) had always been in the studio when The Vigilanteez were recording and had expressed his interest in becoming a recording artist. Don of course being the older brother laughed it off thinking that it was all a joke but one day he decided to let Arrogant get in the booth. Don was so impressed by Arrogant’s charisma and delivery that he decided he wanted to work with Arrogant exclusively.
Under the newly formed Ovatronics label, the duo started recording their first album out or their home studio in Carson California , with that they released their first project “Surveillance” in 2004. Although the album was released mainly for their hardcore underground following and did not receive a lot of promotions or major radio airplay the album became a smash hit in the UK and in Japan . |
